Ebola
Uganda has fifth outbreak of Ebola with the recent occurring in 2022 of Sudan ebolavirus strain that started in September 2022 until January 10th 2023 in the Western and Central regions of the country. This recent outbreak had 160 people infected which 77 people died. At Gulu University, we continue to work with Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe to study T cell proliferation cytokines levels in northern Uganda from the 2000 outbreak in northern Uganda survivors and healthy humans. The objectives are to 1) isolate human neutralizing monoclonal antibodies for the survivors that identify multiple viral proteins targets of the neutralizing humoral immune response; 2) find memory humoral neutralizing immune response in the Ebola surviving patients.
